AA SANE Didactic Training
The Office of the Illinois Attorney General (OAG) will offer adult/adolescent (AA) sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) didactic training Feb. 24-26 from 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. CT at Spoon River College Community Outreach Center in Macomb, Illinois. This is the first of three AA SANE didactic training courses and two pediatric/adolescent (PA) SANE didactic training courses the OAG anticipates offering in 2026. Interested participants must complete an application and submit it along with their resume to sane@ilag.gov by Feb. 5.
AA SANE didactic training is a 40-hour course designed to improve response to sexual assault patients in Illinois. This training is for registered nurses, advanced practice providers and physicians who will be providing medical forensic services to sexual assault survivors in the emergency department. All applicants must have an established mentor (either a AA Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE), SANE-Adult (SANE-A) or AA SANE practicing in Illinois). Applicants who do not currently work in a direct patient care capacity in an emergency department must identify how they will complete the clinical training requirements and practice as a SANE or SAFE. More information on this training can be found here.
The AA didactic training requires pre-coursework, available online, which will be released to registered participants on Jan. 22. This pre-coursework must be completed by Thursday, Feb. 19.
Foundation Training on Responding to Acute Sexual Assault Survivors
The OAG also announced two upcoming Foundation Training webinars on Responding to Acute Sexual Assault Survivors (Foundation Training) on Thursday, Jan. 15 and Thursday, April 2. These webinar-based trainings are designed to assist medical professionals, sexual assault service providers, law enforcement and prosecutors in caring for sexual assault survivors. Foundation Training covers the medical forensic examination, the Illinois State Police Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kit, sexual assault epidemiology, neurobiology of trauma, drug-facilitated sexual assault, child sexual abuse, and Illinois sexual assault laws.
Attending Foundation Training fulfills the statutory requirements for emergency department clinical staff at both treatment and transfer facilities under the Sexual Assault Survivors Emergency Treatment Act (SASETA). Participants who complete at least 90% of the webinar and submit a course evaluation will receive a certificate of participation.
Foundation Training can also assist medical professionals in deciding whether to pursue becoming a SANE or SAFE by providing an introduction to the topics covered in the 40-hour SANE didactic training and explaining the process to become a SANE or SAFE.

Updated SASETA Resources
IHA received information on several new or updated SASETA resources available on the OAG’s SANE Program webpage. First, the Medical Forensic Exam Brochure has been updated to align with recent amendments to SASETA via Public Act 104-0386. At this time, the updated brochure is only available in English. Translations into all languages currently offered on the OAG’s SANE Program webpage are actively in progress and will be posted once complete.
Additionally, the SANE Program webpage has been updated with qualified medical provider (QMP) continuing education and competency resources for 2026, as well as the QMP verification policy and verification request form.
Further, the following Illinois State Police (ISP) forms have been updated and are available to be printed on the ISP Forensic Forms webpage:
-
Transfer Facility Consent Form (6-006)
-
Sexual Assault Patient Consent and Chain of Custody Form (6-003)
These forms must be printed directly from the ISP website. The ISP consent form currently included in the ISP Sexual Assault Evidence collection Kits (SAECKs) will remain in circulation until the next production cycle. During this transition period, hospitals should plan to print the updated form as needed.
Finally, IHA has updated the Sample Notice to Sexual Assault Survivors that every hospital and approved pediatric healthcare facility with a sexual assault treatment plan or sexual assault transfer plan must provide to sexual assault survivors under Sec. 7.5 (c) of SASETA.
