Turn your organization’s health equity plans into action: Join IHA’s expert-led learning collaborative to build out an implementation plan and timeline for a specific equity initiative. This four-part collaborative series, “Health Equity in Action,” will engage hospital leaders organization-wide in equity improvement efforts. Designed for all hospitals, the program will especially benefit those that completed the 2022 IHA Racial Equity in Healthcare Progress Report (Progress Report). Using process improvement strategies, IHA staff will help your organization translate your Progress Report data into concrete steps to advance health equity.

The learning collaborative will center on four pillars for progress:

  • Our People: diversity and inclusion in our workforce for better provider-patient communication

  • Our Organization: using data and measurement to identify and address organizations

  • Our Patients: understanding how disparities play a role in health outcomes

  • Our Community: community engagement as a fundamental pillar in reducing disparities

During each session participants will have an opportunity to learn from peers by sharing and hearing about other organizations’ equity initiatives. 

Organizations that have previously participated in an IHA learning collaborative are encouraged to have additional staff attend or to participate again with a different equity initiative.

  • Introduction to the learning collaborative and overview of the implementation journey
Session 2 ꟾ April 20 ꟾ Noon-1:30 p.m.
  • Review data analytics and hone in on focus area(s)
Session 3 ꟾ May 4 ꟾ Noon-1:30 p.m.
  • Begin mapping out an equity improvement project and identifying changes within the organization
Session 4 ꟾ May 25 ꟾ Noon-1:30 p.m.
  • Develop an implementation plan

Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify areas of opportunity to target based off of their Progress Report submission.

  • Complete process evaluation tools and action planning documents.

  • Prepare an Equity Charter which details the organization’s commitments moving forward.

Speakers

Christina Boyd, MPH, CPHQ
IHA Director, Quality, Safety and Health Policy
Boyd has over 10 years of experience in hospital associations, working to advance quality and health outcomes in Illinois hospitals. In her current role, Boyd is responsible for leading and coordinating quality and patient safety initiatives to support the implementation of improvement processes and improve member performance. She is the lead for various federal, state and local quality improvement projects, as well as the topic lead for patient and family engagement, and EMS operations and policy development. Boyd was previously a laboratory technician with LabCorp. 

Lisa Harries
IHA Assistant Vice President, Health Equity and Policy
Harries’ work at IHA focuses on developing, evaluating and implementing policy proposals and advocacy strategies to address healthcare disparities and inequities in Illinois hospitals. She has extensive experience in leading efforts to advance health equity in partnership with health systems, community-based organizations and community members. She is IHA’s first leader solely dedicated to leading IHA’s health equity initiatives.   

Jenny Winkler, MPH, CIC, CPPS
IHA Senior Director, Quality, Safety and Health Policy
With over 14 years of experience in healthcare, Winkler has extensive knowledge and expertise in the areas of infection prevention, patient safety, quality improvement and project management. At IHA, she works with hospitals to support and enhance their patient safety and quality work.
