Chicago Moving to Phase 3 as Scheduled

June 2, 2020

Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced this morning that the city is moving to Phase 3 of its reopening plan and lifting the local stay-at-home order on Wednesday as originally scheduled, despite the events of the past few days. Lightfoot said she made the decision after meeting with local businesses and chambers of commerce and touring local sites that have been damaged.

Chicago Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said the city has met all public health metrics to move to Phase 3, including declining COVID-19 hospitalizations, a steady decline in new casesand a positivity rate below 15%. But she also noted that the city will surpass more than 50,000 COVID-19 cases within the next few weeks, and she urged Chicagoans who have been at large gatherings recently, including protests, to self quarantine and stay away from people older than 60 and others who have underlying medical conditions.
