HHS Renews Public Health Emergency Declaration
July 24, 2020
Late Thursday, U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar signed a 90-day extension of the COVID-19 public health emergency declaration, renewing critical health system funding and regulatory relief until late October.
Among the policies linked to the public health emergency declaration are the 20% Medicare add-on payment for COVID-19-positive inpatient admissions, numerous telehealth flexibilities, and a 6.2% increase in the Medicaid federal medical assistance percentage (FMAP). The current designation was set to expire on July 25.
