IHA is in close contact with the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) as they monitor a rapidly evolving situation concerning a respiratory illness caused by a novel coronavirus (named “2019-nCoV”) that was first detected in Wuhan City, China.
Chicago and Illinois public health officials are advising people who think they may have been exposed to 2019-nCoV to immediately contact their healthcare provider. Healthcare providers should immediately notify both infection control personnel at their healthcare facility and their local health department or IDPH in the event of a Patient Under Investigation (PUI) for 2019-nCoV.
There are ongoing investigations by global, federal, state and local public health officials and researchers to learn more about 2019-nCoV. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
