The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced
today 593 new COVID-19 cases and 55 deaths. The total number of cases in the state is 134,778 in 101 counties, with a total of 6,537 deaths. IDPH says that in the past 24 hours, 25,504 test specimens have been processed, with a positivity rate of 2.3%. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate from June 11 to June 17 is 3%. Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations in the past 24 hours remained the same as the previous day at 1,878 patients. Of that figure, 538 patients are in the ICU, with 321 patients on ventilators.
As of Wednesday, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures
showed more than 2.1 million confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., with 116,682 deaths.
Today’s WHO Situation Report
shows more than 8.2 million COVID-19 cases globally, with more than 445,000 deaths. The Region of the Americas (includes the U.S.) continues to lead the world with more than 4 million cases and nearly 209,000 deaths.
