New Signage Requirement for Hospital Emergency Departments

MEMORANDUM

New Signage Requirement for Hospital Emergency Departments

Legislation recently enacted into law will require new hospital emergency department signage that provides information on how patients can enroll in health insurance.

PA 101-0117, effective Jan. 1, 2020, amends the Hospital Licensing Act and the University of Illinois Hospital Act to require the posting, in a conspicuous hospital emergency department location, an information notice of how to enroll in health insurance through the Illinois health insurance marketplace, in accordance with the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

As a reminder, the IHA Legal Department maintains a resource on the IHA website of federal and state signage and notice requirements for hospitals.
