Memorial Hospital, Chester
On the banks of the Mississippi River, Memorial Hospital in Chester has been serving the city of 8,500 residents and its surrounding communities since 1962. It has earned a “Gold Seal of Approval” accreditation from The Joint Commission for excellence in patient safety and quality of care.
In 2016, the hospital developed its own crisis prevention training and began working to engage employees in emergency preparedness efforts. The ultimate goal: improving the outcomes of violent situations through de-escalation techniques.
Memorial Hospital invested $14,000 in the training, which included:
- Sending two managers to a “train the trainer” crisis prevention class;
- Training a significant portion of the staff throughout the hospital;
- Creating plain language response codes; and
- Updating policies and procedures to include training and de-escalation techniques.
The hospital’s leadership and employees commit themselves to professional excellence in providing safe, quality healthcare, along with compassion and service to patients, the community and each other.
For patients, families and the community, the hospital’s crisis prevention training improves patient safety; promotes consistency employee in response and actions; and improves collaboration with community partners.
