The showcase is an important opportunity for healthcare leaders to share with legislators how hospitals are improving patient safety and enhancing quality care, while reducing healthcare costs.

2019 Showcase Submission Categories

We encourage all members to submit a project and participate in the 4th annual showcase at the State Capitol in April. IHA will produce a professionally designed 30-by-42-inch poster for each project at no cost to members. See a sample poster from last year's showcase. Submit a quality improvement project in one of the following eight categories:

Behavioral Healthcare

Legislative interest: Increase timely and appropriate access to services; prevent and reduce acute care hospitalizations
Project examples: Advanced practice case management, interdisciplinary emergency department/community-based team, integrated behavioral health, expansion of services, peer mentoring, telehealth

Care Coordination

Legislative interest: Increase communication among patient care coordinators and improve patient outcomes
Project examples: Observation care, palliative care, reduced readmissions, stroke centers

Infection Prevention

Legislative interest: Enhance early recognition, minimize disease and safeguard the community and healthcare workforce
Project examples: Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI), Clostridium difficile (C. diff), hepatitis, surgical site infections, methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), sepsis

Opioid Stewardship

Legislative interest: Promote safe opioid use and support opioid recovery and treatment for patients and communities
Project examples: Opioid prescribing, use of opioid alternatives, pain assessment and management, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), community opioid reduction programs

Patient Safety

Legislative interest: Prevent harm to patients and increase transparency and provider accountability
Project examples: Diagnostic errors, falls, nurse staffing, patient and family communication/committees  

Social Determinants of Health

Legislative interest: Improve community health and reduce disparities by addressing social, economic and environmental factors
Project examples: Health equity initiatives, access to care, health literacy, supporting healthy behaviors, housing, food insecurity, social and community networks, education, community violence prevention  

Workplace Safety

Legislative interest: Preserve safety of the workplace, prepare for emergencies to mitigate against harm to patients and healthcare workers, prevent injuries to healthcare workers
Project examples: Healthcare worker safety programs, reporting violence to healthcare workers, justice-involved patients, emergency preparedness and emergency management  

Other

Legislative interest: Share a quality improvement initiative that ensures optimal health outcomes while reducing healthcare costs, but doesn't fit into any category above.
Project examples: Select a project from your organization that is important to your patients and communities.
