State, National, Global COVID-19 Update

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced today 595 new COVID-19 cases and 77 deaths. The total number of cases in the state is 131,198 in 101 counties, with a total of 6,260 deaths. IDPH says that in the past 24 hours, 24,774 test specimens have been processed, with a positivity rate of 2.4%. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate from June 5 to June 11 is 4%. Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations in the past 24 hours decreased from 2,365 patients to 2,209 patients. Of that figure, 648 patients are in the ICU, with 375 patients on ventilators.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Governor J.B. Pritzker announced today that he will issue an executive order cancelling this summer’s Illinois and Du Quoin state fairs. The fairs will be held in August 2021.

Current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures show more than two million confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., with 113,914 deaths.

The latest WHO Situation Report shows more than 7.4 million COVID-19 cases globally, with more than 418,000 deaths. The Region of the Americas (includes the U.S.) continues to lead the world with more than 3.5 million cases and more than 192,000 deaths.
