State, National, Global COVID-19 Update

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced today 623 new COVID-19 cases and 72 deaths. The total number of cases in the state is 133,639 in 101 counties, with a total of 6,398 deaths. IDPH says that in the past 24 hours, 18,729 test specimens have been processed, with a positivity rate of 3%. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate from June 9 to June 15 is 3%. Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations in the past 24 hours decreased from 1,961 patients to 1,939 patients. Of that figure, 561 patients are in the ICU, with 331 patients on ventilators.

|IDPH also reported today that 26 men incarcerated at East Moline Correctional Center are confirmed positive for COVID-19, and three staff at the facility tested positive for the virus and one has recovered. All the confirmed cases have been traced to the same dorm-style living unit. The Illinois Dept. of Correction's medical task force is utilizing point prevalence surveillance to help control any further spread of infection.

Current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures show more than 2.1 million confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., with 116,140 deaths.

Today’s WHO Situation Report shows more than 7.8 million COVID-19 cases globally, with more than 431,000 deaths. The Region of the Americas (includes the U.S.) continues to lead the world with more than 3.8 million cases and more than 203,000 deaths.
