The Illinois Dept. of Public Health (IDPH) announced today 1,759 new COVID-19 cases and 30 deaths. The total number of cases in the state is 186,471 in 102 counties, with a total of 7,573 deaths. IDPH says that in the past 24 hours, 46,668 test specimens have been processed, with a positivity rate of 3.77%. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate from July 29 to August 4 is 3.9%. Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations in the past 24 hours increased from 1,496 patients to 1,552 patients (highest one-day number since July 1 and first time over 1,500 since July 8). Of that figure, 368 patients were in the ICU, with 129 patients on ventilators.

Today’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures show more than 4.7 million confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., with 156,311 deaths.

Today’s WHO Coronavirus Disease Dashboard shows more than 18.3 million COVID-19 cases globally, with more than 696,000 deaths. The Region of the Americas (includes the U.S.) continues to lead the world with more than 9.8 million cases and more than 367,000 deaths.
