The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced today 1,319 new COVID-19 cases and one death. The total number of cases in the state is 195,399 in 102 counties, with a total of 7,637 deaths. IDPH says that in the past 24 hours, 32,353 test specimens have been processed, with a positivity rate of 4.1%. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate from August 3 to August 9 is 4.1%. Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations in the past 24 hours decreased from 1,488 patients to 1,481 patients. Of that figure, 352 patients were in the ICU, with 138 patients on ventilators.

Today’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures show more than 5 million confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., with 161,842 deaths.

Today’s WHO Coronavirus Disease Dashboard shows more than 19.7 million COVID-19 cases globally, with more than 728,000 deaths. The Region of the Americas (includes the U.S.) continues to lead the world with more than 10.5 million cases and more than 388,000 deaths.
